POEMS

8 Haiku

by Joanne Morcom

autumn dusk
dead leaves rattle
on the sidewalk

harvest moon
the marijuana crop
ripe for picking

drifting clouds
a white horse grazes
in the hayfield

news of his death
on my answering machine
heavy rain

thrift store
I avoid the shopper
talking to himself

waiting room
the magazine pile
dog-eared

dentist's office
the receptionist's teeth
brilliant white

morning fog
I burn the toast
spill the juice

(ed. note:  In next month's issue, Joanne will give us the first in a series of articles on Haiku.  Be sure not to
miss it!)
