Do You Believe in Magic?

Poems by Danielle Arsenault

Do you believe in Magic…I do.

You are leaving, I am staying
Thoughts are frantic to get shit done
Time pressure time line
Hot summer tan line
Sunscreen self service is better for your body
Read to inspire
Think of philosophers
Leap year lemonade tastes better in the shade

Long john hot shot
Lost and found property drop.
The migrant never knew it would be so easy

On a bus for the last time
For a last glance of your tattoos and
A last dance in the dirty sheets of your history
Cigarette citizen
Punk rock circulation
I was sitting beside you all along.

The Duke

double filter precaution of tar
tar scars
fey facts, protect the duke

detour pure distraction
conceal imitation
sharpen stimulation
and outstrip occultism waiting at the docks

These inner workings of the mind caught subliminally in scrutiny
Nosey Parker, Peeping Tom
we experiment to analyse countersigns of interpreters
cross-examinations tremble in the balance of bewitching toes

the duke wonders whether he’ll ever return
in educational bliss
we probe
we grope
and search for an official reply

Mutualista 1

Heads half seem half cut off by other heads
At this moment I prefer to look and write rather than dance.
I prefer to look at the dancers in admiration, not to be one of them
Eyes are glancing beyond any fixed position
I wonder, does this make them dizzy?

Colour for clarity
Opposing past memories
Marry my fake fantasy that blisters in the strobe light
Indecisive incentives become less clear on a picnic
This is a salsa bar
I still don’t know who I am
The current cycle, a curious fight for awareness
As superficiality rears its ugly head

Artist Bio
Danielle is my name...passion is my game. Art is passion. Life speaks louder than eyes of emotion. Being at
part of this process (life) has enabled me to learn more about myself as a kind-hearted human and dedicated
artist. The way in which a community of people can support and care for one another has inspired me to be
thankful in the face of freedom and accept challenges with open arms. This is beyond me. At the present time
while teaching high school in Mexico, I reflect upon the place I usually call home, Calgary, and all continues
without me. As a friend, hiker, poet, punk rocker, actor, educator and lady, attention to the details of love
continues to enhance life’s complexities.
